Newport High School was built as a replacement for Bettws High School and has become a source for social and economic regeneration in the area. The school provides a high quality, flexible and modern educational building which has resulted in a high degree of community involvement.

The main spine building is a curved three store linear block situated to the front of the site with 8 two storey wings radiating off to the rear. The school offers advanced teaching facilities, including 34 general classrooms, eight science labs, eight ICT suites, a fully-equipped design technology wing and a vocational training learning and resource centre.

It incorporates a new Active Living Centre leisure facilities, including a 25m swimming pool, fitness suite, café, and full size artificial turf pitch, which are open for community use outside of school hours.
