The second of two similar Ceridigion County Council schools funded by an Educational Capital Grant Fund from Welsh Assembly Government, Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt was delivered by the local authority in house design and engineering team. Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt was built to amalagamate four pre-existing local schools, and provides teaching accommodation for 135 pupils between the ages of 3 and 11.

Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt and Fynon Bedr, the other school funded under the ECG fund share many common design, construction and procurement features and lessons learnt from the first school were incorporated into Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt.

Both schools have a top lit central corridor with classrooms off both sides. The central ridge glazing also has opening vents to facilitate the natural ventilation strategy.

The earlier Fynon Bedr school has a linear arrangement, but Ysgol Bro Sion Cwilt has a more compact form which makes future expansion more easily achieved.

Both school are situated in rural locations with generous sites allowing substantial landscaping and development of natural habitats, providing  extended play and teaching opportunities.
