Air quality

Indoor air quality can have a direct impact on the users’ health, and sources of potential indoor air pollution should be minimised. Indoor air pollutants can generally be of two main types:

  • gases including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, organic compounds, radon and ozone,
  • particulates including asbestos, fibrous particles, suspended particulate matter (solid and liquid), viable particulate matter (pollen, bacteria, viruses fungal and plant spores) and smoke.

By choosing low emission materials for flooring, wall coverings and furnishings, levels of volatile organic compounds’ (VOC) will be reduced, improving conditions for good health.

What should I do?

Select materials that have low emissions.
