Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Building services generally include heating, cooling and ventilation.

There are a range of systems available for each of these services, they can be naturally or mechanical controlled.  They can be combined, for example the heating and cooling can be incorporated by a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system.

As energy demand is reduced through thermal efficiencies in the fabric and passive design, mechanical systems can be reduced in size and complexity. However, this does make control more difficult, for example, the delivery of heat to a space by the heating system may be smaller in comparison to the heat from internal gains (lights, people, etc) and solar gains through the glazing. It is therefore important that system controls are able to respond effectively to the variation in heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting loads.

Systems should be as simple as possible to comprehend by the user, and complex control systems that are difficult to maintain and operate should be avoided.
