Stakeholders who should be involved in decision making for sustainable design

Communication is a key element in sustainable design. The sustainability aims of the design of a school need to be agreed by all stakeholders early in the design process and these should be recorded and followed throughout.

Good quality information that is easily understood is required to enable all stakeholders to understand the sustainability aims of a new build or refurbishment. By understanding the aim the stakeholders will feel directly involved and therefore have more respect for the school in the long term.

Stakeholders should meet physically on a regular basis, and professionals should provide knowledge in a way that is understood by all. Methods for disseminating appropriate information in a format that can be understood by all are essential.

What should I do?

The sustainability aims should be agreed by all stakeholders early on and revisited frequently.
