People monitoring and measurement

Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) should be undertaken to evaluate a school after a period of occupancy, normally after 12 months.

A systematic approach should be take that values the experiences of school users, including those involved in management, maintenance and operation. This will help building designers, developers and contractors to learn about how the building actually performs, how it satisfies the occupants and what improvement can be made in the future projects.

To implement POE, a program needs to be developed carefully to set up a framework for the evaluation process. This should cover performance review, evaluation methods / techniques, performance benchmarking, evaluator and reporting.  A good post occupancy evaluation requires the support from all stakeholders involved to ensure continuous improvement of all aspects and phases of building projects.

What should I do?

Identify aspects of the built environment that should be evaluated and the timescales required for study.
