Modern Methods of Construction

Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) is a term used to embrace a range of technologies and processes involving various forms of supply chain specifications, prefabrication and off-site assembly (DCLG, 2007).

The MMC process involves efficient project management processes, with the view to providing more product, of better quality, in less time. It may or may not involve the manufacture of components off site. It involves greater application of processes similar to manufacturing for example, quality control, component pre-assembly and very good quality supervision. MMC generally involves some level of off-site work, in the form of framed constructions, cassette or panel systems, or volumetric systems. This can help reduce material use through more controlled manufacturing approach to construction, reduce site waste and ensure a higher standard of quality.
